Education Programme for Years 1-6

Leave the textbooks behind and step into a place steeped in history and heritage.

At Bedwellty House and Park we offer a creative educational programme that covers a range of topics from historical sessions to themed activities, all guaranteed to engage and entertain your learners.

Our programmes are extremely flexible and can be covered as a whole day’s visit or half-day session, which can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of each school group.

Our facilitated programmes are delivered by experienced staff and instructors.

Take a virtual tour of the park …

Step into the past of this iconic Regency villa and gardens by following the history trail.  Learn about the residents from the 1800s from the rise and fall of the iron industry through to the creation of the National Health Service and how this impacts society today.

Bedwellty House has adapted to many turbulent times of history.  From the Chartist uprising in 1839 where it was said to resemble an armed camp as its residents defended it from possible attack to World War II when it became an administrative centre and in 1984-85 where it was used to distribute food parcels during the Miners’ strike.

Learn about Life in Victorian Times …

The Victorian era was a time of great social, industrial and economic change in Wales. 

You will learn about daily life and leisure, the impact of the social and economic changes, how technological advancements and inventions benefited people’s live and how this has evolved to modern day.

The Industrial Revolution …

Learn about the benefits and consequences of the Industrial Revolution, people’s living conditions, unification and the progression to the establishment of the NHS, and why Tredegar and surrounding areas had such a significant impact at this time.

Bedwellty House and Park is the perfect place to experience societal changes with both the house and park providing examples that will enrich learners’ understanding and appreciation of bygone times.

Learn about Aneurin Bevan

Sit in the iconic Council Chamber and enjoy an engaging video highlighting Aneurin Bevan’s rise from an elected member of Tredegar Urban District Council to becoming an MP within the post-war Labour Government as Minister for Health and Social Care.  Inspired by Tredegar’s medical aid society, he honed his strategy through his commitment to improving healthcare for all to develop the NHS.

 

You’ll learn about society before the NHS and the challenging social and economic conditions including the Medical Aid Society, how our mining community and unions played such a pivotal role in its development.

 

During these sessions, you’ll also learn about health and wellbeing during these times – from the perspective of the iron and coal industries, the role of democracy and the coal industry’s impact on the community and environment, both then and now.

Learn through Play …

Our art and craft sessions are themed around the history of the health board and the local steel works, providing learners with inspiration to create their own interpretation of history.

Christmas at Bedwellty …

We’re very excited about Christmas at Bedwellty House and Park and the elves work tirelessly to get Santa’s cottage ready for his annual visit. 

 

Come along and experience a magical Christmas.  Our very own Christmas elf will take the children along the festive trail to Santa’s grotto where they’ll meet Santa in his cosy cottage.

Louby Lou’s Interactive Storytelling …

Louby Lou provides creative and imaginative experiences for children in a vibrant, engaging way, delivering exciting educational workshops based around popular stories and themes, which can be experienced by all ages and abilities. At the heart of these workshops lies a key focus on creative learning through the use of expressive arts, helping to improve a wide number of skills for your learners including oracy, literacy, collaboration and confidence.

Mini Movers …

A fun and friendly music and movement class for younger children.

Children will develop movement skills enjoyed by exploring children's songs.

Our Christmas activities run for a half day, and each child will receive an activity pack and cooking to enjoy.

Our seasonal activities run for a half day, and each child will receive an activity pack and cookie to enjoy.

We look forward to welcoming you and your learners to Bedwellty House and Park. 

You decide on the programme that is best suited to your learners.  Our team will work with you to provide an experience that is tailored to your needs and outcomes.  Bookings are for day or half day (four or two activities), with an optional themed lunch and/or afternoon tea.
